82A Commercial Street is a Victorian subterranean public toilet situated close to Christ Church Spitalfields. Since the toilets were decommissioned in the 1970’s, this small underground building has been a bar, a nightclub and more recently, home to street food outlets. Given the building’s excellent location, at the heart of the Spitalfields neighbourhood, we believe this building could be a major asset for the local community and for the many visitors to the area.

As the popularity of Spitalfields increases, demand on the local services and amenities intensifies. This small building inhabits a unique position, between the financial centre of Bishopsgate and the vibrancy of Brick Lane, and more specifically between Christ Church and Old Spitalfields Market. This offers an opportunity to cultivate a focal point, a gathering place.
